VCD file extension is most commonly used by either Video CD or Virtual CD files created by different applications.

Video CD (aka White Book) is a standard created jointly in 1993 by JVC, Sony, Matsushita and Philips. This standard defines a way to store VHS quality digital video on optical compact disks up to 800 megabytes in size. Video CDs use MPEG-1 for compressing video at 1,150 kbps and MPEG-1 Audio Layer II for compressing stereo audio at 224 kbps. VideoCD disks usually contain the following VCD files:

info.vcd - general album and disk information (title, copyright, etc)
entries.vcd - list of "entrypoints" (chapters)
psd.vcd - play sequence descriptor. This file is optional. Some disks may also contain and extended PSD file.
lot.vcd - list ID offsets. This file is optional. Some disks may also contain and extended LOT file.

You cannot open VCD files directly by any software however the entire disk can be played using most modern DVD players like PowerDVD, WinDVD etc.

Virtual CD files are used to store copies of optical disks - CDs and DVDs. These files can then be "mounted" into virutal CD/DVD drives in such a way that computer believes that the actual physical disk was inserted. This may be convenient since disks can be excanged faster, stored on a remote network location etc. This also prevents wear and tear of the original disks which may become unreadable after extensive use.

It is important to use correct program to open VCD files because mismatch can cause errors and data corruption.

How Can I Open VCD File on Windows

We researched and learned that the best way to open VCD file is to find a VCD file in question in Windows OS File Explorer and double click on it to launch the corresponding application.
If a VCD file is not opened in an application and you instead get a "Windows can't open a file" error message you should try looking for an application which can open the file in question.

If you downloaded a VCD file on Android device you can open it by following steps below:

In the Android apps list on your Android device find "My Files" or "File manager" app and tap to start it.
Tap on "Downloads" folder inside the app.
You should see your downloaded VCD file in that folder.
Tap on the file. If Android device supports opening the file you downloaded it will open in the corresponding app.
If file does not open you can look for the corresponding app that can open the file by searching Android App Store for the "VCD".
If you cannot open the file with the apps from Android App Store it is possible that the file could only be opened on desktop platforms such as Windows or Mac OS. Try searching for "VCD viewer", "VCD file reader" online and see if any desktop applications can open it.
It is also possible that the file you downloaded is outdated and is no longer supported.

To open VCD File on iOS device follow steps below:

You will see all files that you recently downloaded. Tap on the VCD file to view it.
