An XMIND file extension and format is used to save a workbook created by XMind, an idea generation and mind mapping application.
The XMIND file allows you to store multiple sheets, each containing a diagram that captures ideas during a brainstorming session.
The versatility of XMIND files allow them to be used to store organizational charts, work outlines, Gantt charts, and other individual and business charts.
Before XMIND files, there were XMAP files for saving workbooks, but these have been superseded because XMIND is saved in the XMind Workbook format and is compatible with the XMind and Seavus iMindQ applications.
XMIND files are compressed with Zip compression, which makes them uncompressed using a Zip decompression program such as WinZip, 7-Zip, WinRAR, or the Apple Archive Utility.
To do this you must rename the XMIND extension to ZIP. Then you can manually extract the contents of the XMIND file using any ZIP compatible unarchiver, which usually includes multiple XML files and JPG thumbnail files.
To make the XMIND file operational again, you must compress the compressed file with Zip compression again using a ZIP compatible utility, and then return the extension name to XMIND.
To work with an XMIND file, you must have the following program installed on your system:
