The UWL file is a file used by the Corel WordPerfect and Novell GroupWise programs in their spell checking system.
WordPerfect and Novell GroupWise are word processors and in this case, the UWL file contains a list of words added by the user that are recognized and validated by the spell checker in the text of the document.
The grammar and spell check applet for these programs locates the associated UWL file to reference the data stored in that file to provide functionality to the user by accessing these supported programs.
It is important to know that UWL files are saved in the "WTXXYY.UWL" format, where "XX" is the version of the program and "YY" is the code of the language or the source location, thus, older UWL files can imported into newer versions of WordPerfect by renaming the version digits in the UWL file.
In some versions of the program, you can also update older files to the newer formats of the program by using the User Word List option in the spell checker.
