PIP files are used by the Microsoft Office suite to store preferences and
settings for "Custom menus and bars".
Each Microsoft Office application creates the PIP file when it evaluates
which menu commands are used the most.
Only the commonly used commands are shown in an abbreviated version of each menu, which is why the PIP file exists, to save the customized settings.
Each MS Office application has its own PIP file, for example: 'excel.pip', and these are stored in the directory:
Application Data\Microsoft\Office
An MS Office program can have more than one PIP file, for example, Microsoft Word menu settings files can be named "Word.pip" or "Word2.pip".
The menu options in Office programs can be customized manually by selecting View ? Toolbars ? Customize, finally by clicking on the "Options" tab, these settings are saved in the PIP files.
