Open MOFF File

MOFF format and extension files are management files used by PlayMemories Home.

PlayMemories is a video and photo service in the Sony cloud, used to manage and synchronize the photos stored on your smartphone and your computer at the same time.

PlayMemories uses the MOFF format to manage images in offline mode.

The MOFF files contain information necessary to manage the images, such as the date and time or information about GPS or recording, therefore this file should not be ignored, nor edited, much less deleted.

The cases where MOFF files are present are when importing MP4 movies from an Action Cam equipped with GPS function and when viewing videos on PlayMemories Home.

If you move or delete MOFF files in PlayMemories Home, the related management files will also be moved or deleted.

When backing up, these management files must also be included, so please back up by folders.

MOFF files are not compatible with any other software and manual opening is not recommended. Therefore the only suitable software package for working with MOFF files is:

PlayMemories

It is important to note that Sony has announced the end of the distribution of the PlayMemories Online service as of July 28, 2021.

How Can I Open MOFF File on Windows

We researched and learned that the best way to open MOFF file is to find a MOFF file in question in Windows OS File Explorer and double click on it to launch the corresponding application.
If a MOFF file is not opened in an application and you instead get a "Windows can't open a file" error message you should try looking for an application which can open the file in question.
If you know the application which can open MOFF file then run it and see if there is a File->Open main menu option in the application.
If you don't know the application which function as MOFF file opener then try to search online for "MOFF viewer", "application to open MOFF file" or "open MOFF file" queries in the search engine you like.

If you downloaded a MOFF file on Android device you can open it by following steps below:

Tap on "Downloads" folder inside the app.
You should see your downloaded MOFF file in that folder.
Tap on the file. If Android device supports opening the file you downloaded it will open in the corresponding app.
If file does not open you can look for the corresponding app that can open the file by searching Android App Store for the "MOFF".

How to Open MOFF File on iPhone or iPad

To open MOFF File on iOS device follow steps below:

We advies to open Files app on your iPhone or iPad device. You can find it by swiping down on the home screen and typing "Files" in the search bar.
Tap on the Downloads folder on the Files app home screen.
You will see all files that you recently downloaded. Tap on the MOFF file to view it.
If you have the right app that can open it it will automatically launch and open your file.
If you don't have the app which can open it you need to serch Apple app store for "MOFF". This way you can find apps which can open MOFF files.
