Open IEM File

Understanding IEM File Extensions

If you've received an IEM file and are at a loss on how to open or use it, you've come to the right place. There are various formats and ways to open files with IEM file extensions. Knowing and understanding these will make it easy to not only open these files, but use them to their full potential.

Understanding the IEM File Format

The IEM file extension is associated with the Internet Explorer web browser. It represents IE's Exported Favorites file type. Therefore, in this format, an IEM file is a regular text file that contains a list of bookmarks or favorites that a user has saved within their Internet Explorer browser.

Opening IEM Files

Considering its association with Internet Explorer, the easiest way to open an IEM file is to use this browser itself. However, due to IEM files essentially being regular text files, they can still be opened using any text editor such as Notepad++ or Windows Notepad.

Importing IEM Files

If you want to import your IEM files into your current Internet Explorer browser, the process is straightforward. Head to the "Import and Export" wizard in the File menu and choose "Import from a file". After this, ensure that the "Favorites" checkbox is selected, and then navigate to your IEM file. It's important to note that the browser may not automatically recognize your file, and you may have to choose "All Files" from the dropdown to locate it.

IEM File Important Information

Despite being simple text files, IEM files can be highly valuable if you use Internet Explorer as your main browser and have a host of favorite sites bookmarked on it. By exporting your favorites into an IEM file, you have a form of backup that can easily be imported back into the browser whenever needed. It's essential to remember that these files are not directly readable, in that they don't render the websites they contain, but simply provide links that your browser can follow.
