Open DPP File
A .DPP file is an extension used by a few different types of software, including DrawPlus drawing files and Prepress files. The type of software required to open a .DPP file depends on the program that created it. In this article, we'll discuss some common formats of .DPP files and the associated ways to open and use them.
Common Formats of .DPP Files
Serif DrawPlus Drawing Files
DrawPlus is a 2D vector graphics editor developed by the UK-based software company Serif. In this application, a .DPP file is a DrawPlus Drawing file that contains a vector graphic created or edited with DrawPlus.
To open this type of .DPP file, you need to have Serif DrawPlus software. Note that as of my training cut-off in September 2021, Serif has discontinued the DrawPlus software in favor of their new application, Affinity Designer. Affinity Designer can also open .DPP files created with DrawPlus.
Prepress Files
.DPP files can also be associated with prepress software used in the printing industry. This format is less common and requires specific prepress software to open.
Opening .DPP Files
DrawPlus Drawing Files
If your .DPP file is a DrawPlus Drawing file, you will need the DrawPlus software to open it. If you do not have DrawPlus, you can use Affinity Designer, which is the successor to DrawPlus. Follow these steps to open .DPP files in Affinity Designer:
- Launch Affinity Designer.
- Go to the "File" menu and select "Open".
- Navigate to the location of the .DPP file.
- Select the file and click "Open".
Prepress Files
If your .DPP file is a prepress file, you will need the specific prepress software that created the file. If you do not have the original software, you may be able to use a universal file viewer like File Magic to open the .DPP file.
However, if the .DPP file is proprietary or the format isn't widely used, you may not be able to open it without the original software. In this case, you might need to contact the software vendor for assistance.
Final Remarks
A .DPP file can be a DrawPlus Drawing file or a prepress file, each requiring different software to open. Understanding the origins of your .DPP file is key to determining how to open it. Always exercise caution when opening files of an unfamiliar format and ensure they come from a trusted source.
