BDB files are a backup of a database, saved in WDB format created with MS Works.
Microsoft Works was a productivity software suite developed by Microsoft and released between 1987 and 2009, with some similarities to Microsoft Office.
Its core functionality included a word processor, spreadsheet, and database management system.
Later versions had a calendar application and a dictionary, while earlier versions included a terminal emulator.
The BDB database file was automatically generated by Microsoft Works as a backup in case the original database file becomes corrupted.
In some cases, the BDB file was a full copy of the original WDB file, but with a changed extension, so changing the backup file's extension from BDB to WDB was enough for the original to open correctly.
As stated in the beginning, Microsoft Works is no longer being produced and has been discontinued so it is no longer available.
That said, the BDB file is no longer supported and has become obsolete.
Typical BDB application file locations:
- C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~1\wksdb.exe "%1"
Frequently associated Windows objects:
- MSWorks4Database
